Smash Padel & Tennis Academy — Brand Identity Design
Unifying two sports under one bold, scalable brand identity. A full brand identity for a padel and tennis academy in Cyprus — elevating an outdated tennis-only logo into a modern, energetic visual system built for signage, merchandise, and digital.
Problem
Smash had been operating as a tennis academy for years, but had recently expanded to include padel — one of the fastest-growing sports in Europe. Their existing logo reflected none of this evolution. It featured a tennis player silhouette in dark navy and green, with no reference to padel, no versatility across formats, and a visual language that felt dated against the energy of a modern sports academy. The brand needed to grow up — and grow to include both sports without losing the identity players already associated with the Smash name.
Process
The brief was clear: elevate the brand, modernise the visual language, and create a unified identity that authentically represented both padel and tennis under one academy. The process began with a thorough audit of the existing brand — identifying what worked (the name recognition, the energy of "Smash") and what didn't (the silhouette illustration, the limited colour palette, the tennis-only positioning). From there, the focus shifted to the symbol. The solution was a custom S letterform integrated with a padel racket — a single mark that carried both the brand name and a direct reference to the sport. This became the foundation of the entire identity system. The colour direction moved away from the dark navy and green entirely, shifting to a bold purple palette — energetic, distinctive, and ownable in a market where most sports brands default to blue or green. A secondary orange was introduced for contrast and warmth. The system was then extended across multiple logo expressions — primary horizontal, secondary stacked, symbol/badge, and wordmark — ensuring the brand could perform consistently across every application, from entrance signage to embroidered caps.
Solution
A complete brand identity system built for a modern sports academy The final identity delivered: A custom symbol combining the S letterform with a padel racket — immediately readable, highly versatile, and distinctly Smash. A bold purple and orange palette that stands apart from every competitor in the space. A full logo system with four expressions — primary, secondary, symbol badge, and wordmark — each designed for specific applications. A complete brand guidelines document covering logo usage, colour specifications, typography, and application rules. The brand works at every scale — from a large-format exterior sign to a 2cm embroidered logo on a cap. It reads as tennis and padel without needing to explain itself.
Results
The rebrand delivered a complete, professional brand identity system that positions Smash as a serious, modern sports academy rather than a local tennis club. The client received a scalable system ready for immediate rollout across signage, merchandise, digital, and marketing materials. The identity successfully unified padel and tennis under one visual language — resolving the core brand problem and giving the academy a foundation to grow from as padel continues its rapid expansion across Europe and Cyprus.
